Memorial Day 2010 - Summer Begins @ The Lake

It's always amazing how things can change at the lake in just one day. How magical it feels to have the boundaries of winter peel away in a day to reveal summer @ the lake....and yes occasionally google seems to not make the video available (in case you get the video unavailable error).

Savannah GA – Well…well…well….

Carolyn and I just returned from the service learning trip we chaperoned to Savannah GA.  This is an alternative Spring Break trip and we hosted 11 Misericordia University students as we all worked in the Georgia Infirmary and St. Mary’s Community Center.  It was a really nice trip and the people we met and worked with were amazing.

Here are a few photos from the trip…details at the bottom.

Blizzmageddon 2010 !

Here's a quick time-lapse I built over the course of about 2 days or so encapsulating the nasty little storm we had that cancelled work for 2 days and dumped about 2-feet of snow on us. The interval is 1 photo every 5 minutes, but sadly the real heart of the storm came overnight, so it's a little hard to see the real accumulation.

Fire !

HLFire23Feb2010d It’s always odd to hear sirens rushing by the house at 2AM.  You wake and wonder if it’s the soundtrack of a nightmare or real.  Sad to say, last night it was real.  We awoke to see quite a sight across the far side of the lake from our house.  Not sure of the cause yet, but it’s a safe bet that on a cold Feb night, someone probably had a heating failure of some sort.  Thankfully only one person lived there and he made it out.  The house is of course a total loss and as of first sighting, the flames were 60+ feet high.  The hand held, through the window, maximum zoom photo does it no justice, but you get the idea.
